Subject:External Email : pier opening
My name is Jeffrey Blancq, Government Affairs Committee Chairman for the Seal Beach Chamber.
My comment revolves around continued concern over the closure of the pier. If we can respect social distancing
then
the opening of the pier would definitely help businesses on Main Street.
*This comment comes from speaking with various small business owners.

Republic Services has launched “Committed to Serve,” an initiative to recognize its frontline employees in the field, their families, and
small business customers across the country.
Over the next two months, all of Republic Services’ 28,000 frontline employees will receive a weekly meal, a weekly dinner for
employees and their families, and bi-weekly $100 gift cards ($400 per employee) to be spent locally at restaurants, pharmacies, grocery
stores and retail outlets – keeping dollars in our communities.
The meals are being be purchased from local, small businesses to help support Republic Services’ customers and the communities it
serves.
In the greater Los Alamitos/Seal Beach area, Republic Services is providing meals to almost 400 employees per week at both of their
nearby hauling divisions located in Long Beach and Huntington Beach. To date, over 1,000 meals have been provided by local
restaurants including Polly’s Pies and the El Pollo Loco franchise in Los Alamitos. Another 800 family dinners were provided Friday,
April 24th, from Taco Surf in Seal Beach.
“Small businesses are often hit the hardest during times of uncertainty. The ‘Committed to Serve’ initiative is a gesture of support for
both our employees and our local small businesses - whom are also our customers,” said Manuel Gouveia, Municipal Relationship
Manager with Republic Services. “The reaction from small business owners and employees has been pure appreciation. Additionally,
our employees feel a sense of pride being able to give back to the local communities we are committed to serve.”
