HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 3826 1988-12-05 the Eagle is the highest rank a Boy Jcout can achieve; and the Eagle Amard is achieved by earning ~enty-one merit badges, each denoting a special skill and a series of proficiency levels for skills in citilenship, personal development and physical fitness; and former Jeal Beach resident, IDilliam P. murphey, troop Humber 642, under the leadership of Jcoutmaster Barry Jnyder, has completed all of his Eagle Jcout requirements and ~ill appear before the Court of Kanor on December 18, 1988 to receive his Eagle badge; and Bill began his Boy Jcout activities in Jeptember 1983, after completing the CUb Jcout Program ~here he received the Arl'll\l) of tight Amard. lie has servetl his troop as a Patrol 'eader, Assistant 'eniar Patrol 'eader and 'enior Patrol 'eader, Bill also served on staff for Bay 'eader training antl .as Jenior Patrol 'eader for the Junior 'eadership training program in his District. In addiHon, he lI)as selechd to be in the "Counselor in trainil!g" Program at Camp Cherry Oalley on Catalina Xsland far one year, then as a , camp counselor far the Environmental merit Badge and the Environmental and Conservation Jkill Awards at the camp during the summer of 1988. Bill has also served an many district camporee staffs and as a counselor far the District Cub Day Camp; and his scouting honors include the R.G. Canning ~utstanding youth Achievament Award, Altare Dei Religious i\II)ard, Grand Canyon Hiking medal, and numerous other high adventure awards. He has backpacked over 200 miles and has spent over 100 nights camping under the stars. Bill is also a Brotherhood Honor member in the ,antee Chapter.of the ~rder of the Arl'll\l); and Bill murphey performed his Eagle service project by planning, developing and giving leadership to 21 fellQll) scouts and 6 adults in the planting of 66 trees in the ne~ COllege Park. through his efforts and the help of some local civic organilations and nurseries, BIll ~as able to get all of the trees aunated, saving the City of 'eal Beach over $3000.00; and WHEREA$, BIll spent 16 hours planning, 19 hours developing, and 8 hours completing his project. An additional 256 man-hours lI)ere supplied by his fellow scouts and adults.
