About Canine Companions for Independence0 (CCI)
• Canine Companions® has bred, raised, and
expertly trained service dogs in over 40
commands
• Four types of assistance dogs:
o Service Dogs
o Hearing Dogs

• Breeding, training, and support = $50,000
o Donated to people in need, completely free
of charge!

What is a Police Facility Dog?

Facility dogs are not Patrol Apprehension / Detection dogs
Facility Dogs are used to:
o Help investigate crimes
o Provide comfort to victims and witnesses
o Lower tensions and stress of community members and
staff
o Work with children
o Conduct senior visits and welfare checks
o Engage with the public during community events
o And much more!

Breeding & Puppy Raising
Breeders evaluate dogs for their:
o Temperament
o Ability to train
o Health
o Physical attributes
Volunteer Puppy Raisers provide:
o Training in basic commands,
o Teach obedience and manners
o Socialize the dog to other people and animals
o Prepare them for professional training
Professional Training & Placement
• At Professional Training, dogs:
• Train for six to nine months
• Taught advanced commands
• Evaluated for placement
• Application Process
• Placement
• Dogs are carefully matched with
handlers
• Facility dogs must have an unobtrusive
and calm demeanor
