HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation - Rachel Fattel4 CIT9 of gal $each STate- of California "2021 Gold Medalist Rachel Fattal" WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach is honored to recognize Olympic Gold Medalist Rachel Fattal; and, WHEREAS, Rachel Fattal was born in Los Alamitos, California, she resides in Seal Beach with parents Ron and Maria Fattal and brother Ryan; and, WHEREAS, Rachel attended Los Alamitos High Schoof and played four -years of varsity water polo under Head Coach Dave Carlson; Four-year varsity swimmer and volleyball letter winner; 2012 CIF Division Player of the Year 2011-12 Sunset League Female Athlete of the Year and 2011-12 Press Telegram Player of the Year; and, WHEREAS, in 2016 Rachel became an Oiympic Gold medalist; she's a UCLA graduate and a four -time 1 st Team Ail -American. She joined the Senior National Team following her MVP performance at the 2013 FINA Junior World Championships. Rachel has played professionally in Australia since her graduation from UCLA; and, WHEREAS, Rachel competes professionally for Hunter Hurricanes in Australia; and, WHEREAS, on August 7, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan, the U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team defeated Spain 14-5 in the Tokyo final and cemented their legacy as one of the legendary programs in the history of the sport, earning an unprecedented third straight team Olympic Go#d Medal; and, WHEREAS, Rachel Fattal hit with just one second left in the quarter for a 4-1 advantage went on to earn her 2nd Gold Medal; and, WHEREAS, on August 07, 2021 at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, Rachel Fattal and teammates won an Olympic Gold Medal; and, NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joe Kalmick, Mayor, on behalf of the Seal Beach City Council and the Seal Beach Community are honored to recognize Gold Medalist Rachel Fattal for all of her hard work, participation, accomplishments, and for bringing home the GOLD again!
