HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 3651 1986-11-10 RESOLUTION NUMBER ~~~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA AMENDING THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO INCLUDE THE REVISED POSITION OF POLICE OFFICER I THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH HEREBY RESOLVES: WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Seal Beach adopted a Position Classification Plan on November 22, 1982j and WHEREAS, the Civil Service Board has recommended a revised description for the position of Police Officer at their meeting of November 6, 1986j and WHEREAS, the City Council concurs with the recommendation of the Civil Service Board. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach hereby amends the Position Classification Plan to include the revised position of Police Officer. Resolution Number .3t,!i1 POLICE OFFICER DEFINITION Under general supervision, the Police Officer patrols an assigned area in the I prevention of crime and the enforcement of law and order and t.he protection of persons and property and does related work as required. The Police Officer carries out special assignments in investigations, community relations, training and clerical duties as may be required. Police Officer assignments include: Auto Theft Detective, Burglary Detective, Community Relations Officer, 'Court Liaison and Legal Research Detective, Fraud and Check Detective, Juvenile Detective, Vice and Intelligence Detective, Uniformed Patrol Officer and Motorcycle Officer. TYPICAL TASKS Receives instructions regarding problems and assignments during an assigned shiftj patrols the streets to observe evidence of violations of law or conditions conducive to illegal activities or traffic accidentsj reports hazardsj renders first aid and emergency medical attentionj issues citations or warningsj directs pedestrian and motor trafficj investigates crimes and violations reportedj places and removes signsj gives informationj escorts parades and movements of large objects over the streets such as missilesj dispatches units and serves as communications officer when requiredj reports the need for servicing and repair of equipmentj locates, gathers and preserves evidencej obtains warrantsj attends classes and target practicej may be required to perform errands or other tasks necessary for department administrationj enforces parking regulations. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education: Experience: Graduation from a P.O.S.T. approved academy, or successful completion, at the time of appointment, of the P.O.S.T. basic course waiver examination process. I Graduation from high school or an approved G.E.D. Physical: Must be in good physical condition, weight in proportion to heightj vision 20/20 corrected and free from color blindness. Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to learn a variety of laws, policies and procedures covering modern methods of police workj to work effectively with fellow officersj analyze problems and prepare effective written and oral reportsj ability to work under emergency stress conditionsj must possess a valid California driver's license.
