This is the largest veteran coalition established in Orange County history. The coalition is formed for the sole purpose of addressing this singular issue. "Veterans are fed up with the endless delays and political manipulation in the City of Irvine. Almost ten years of being pushed around like mere pieces on a political chess board is enough. Veterans of Orange County have found our voice united in our sacrifice and service to our great nation and by our honor and loyalty to each other to request the community join together in a regional effort to finally build a suitable resting place for our fallen"... therefore: We urge the County of Orange to pursue the possibility of building a Veterans cemetery on the Gypsum Canyon site in the City of Anaheim which has already been planned for a cemetery and is currently in the Orange County Cemetery District. After almost a decade of vigorous efforts to build a Veterans cemetery in the City of Irvine, it appears that once again the project will be subjected to protracted competing litigation. During this interminable delay Veterans have already endured lawsuits, ballot initiatives, and numerous competing petition campaigns. Veterans cannot wait for the pending and threatened litigation to conclude in Irvine and the certainty of more political battles that will follow the additional years of litigation. It has become painfully obvious that for many reasons we need regional resources and support to make a Veterans cemetery a reality for the brave men and women who served this great country. The Gypsum Canyon site in the City of Anaheim is a feasible, timely, and logical alternative to the disputed options currently under consideration.
