Why do we use Police Service Dogs (PSD'sL?
• K -9s are used to locate people and things.
• K -9s can locate suspects much quicker and more accurately
than humans.
• K -9s can provide both a tactical and/or psychological advantage
during a deployment.
— K -9s have superior senses [ears/nose]
• i.e. 10K to 100K times better sense of smell than humans.
— K -9s have a fear -factor. Most suspects are afraid of K -9s.
• K -9s can locate evidence (i.e. narcotics or firearms).
• Police K -9s reduce the risk to Officers and increase Officer
Safety.
Other Benefits of a PSD

• Effective community service resource
• Utilized for public events and demonstrations
• McGaugh Elementary
