Re: Above ground battery operated temporary irrigation system for the 5 trees to be installed at Gum Grove Park. What will this look like? Will it be protected from possible vandalism, or from causing injury to park visitors? The controller will be placed in an irrigation valve box with the lid of the valve box set to be flush with ground level. The individual drip irrigation pipelines (driplines) will be running to each tree buried a minimum V-6" deep, with mulch placed over the trenches. Once each dripline reaches the tree root zone it will be placed on the top soil directly around the tree base. The trees planted at River's End Park are a good example of this method of tree irrigation installation. While we cannot say with absolute certainty that these irrigation lines will be protected from vandalism, the City Arborist does not foresee any issues and does not believe additional protection of the irrigation drip system would be needed.
