A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO INCLUDE THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION OF COURT LIAISON / COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH HEREBY RESOLVES: WHEREAS, the City Council adopted a Position C~assification Plan on November 22, 1982; and I WHEREAS, the Civil Service Board of the City of Seal Beach has recommended that the Plan be amended to include the position classification of Court Liaison/Community Relations Officer. NOW, THEREFORE, BE If RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach does hereby amend the Position Classification Plan to include the position of Court Liaison/Community Relations Officer. I ~ Resolution Number -S7d7 , , COURT LIAISON/COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER DEFINITION UDder administrative direction serves as liaison between the Police Department and the Courts. Serves as community liaison on behalf of the City; does related work as required. I TYPICAL TASKS Reviews and presents criminal and traffic cases to the District Attorney~s office for issuance of complaints; processes "in custody" arrest reports after reviewing for probable cause and required elements of the appropriate enforcement codes of municipal. penal or vehicle; completes District Attorney~s worksheet on all cases listing Victims. witnesses and arresting officers to be subpoenaed. The liaison officer also notifies "on call" officers when they are needed in Court or when they are taken off call or have their cases continued; handles subpoenas aDd subpoena duces tecums, and pitchess motions; presents cases to Municipal or Superior Court judges for issuance of search or arrest warrants; keeps records of and tracks cases as they progress through the Court system. Rapport is maintained with public offense. traffic, public defender~s office and the marshal~s office. UDder directio~. performs adllinistrative assignments. including coordination and assignment of public speaking engagements; establishes and assists in the coordination of neighborhood watch. crime prevention and public safety programs; acts as a liaison with local schools and civil groups; serves as community relations liaison for all City departments. 1 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Education: Possession of an A.A. Degree or 60 semester units of college credits in Public Administration, Public Relations. Police Science or a related field. Experience: Two years of experience working in the criminal justice system or serving in a public relations capacity.
