SUBJECT: Just want to clear up a few things from last night — especially before you vote on #44
Last night, you mentioned that the Christmas Parade and Springfest Parade are city events, but the Car Show
and Sand Castle Festival are non profit events as we raise money. The Car Show and the Sand Castle Events
are as much or more of a city event as the Christmas Parade and Springfest Parade — and all of the above
events are sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
All proceeds from the Sand Castle Festival (last year approx $3,500 as we were in the building process and
have a lot of 1 time expenses) go to our monthly beach cleanups and annual riverbed cleanup.
All proceeds from the Car Show (this year approx $5,000) help us pay for the Christmas Parade,
Springfest Parade, State of the City Luncheon, Music On Main, Kite Festival, Thanksgiving Day Dinner,
Santa Sleigh & Live Reindeer and more.
We need to let everyone know that for every event we have, we start by paying the city a $100 permit fee, and
then an additional $900 to the city for the Car Show and an additional $1500 to the city for the Sand Castle
Festival.
We also need to let everyone know that before we had Target, Walt's Wharf was one of the largest sales tax
contributor in the city of Seal Beach. Walt's and other Main Street restaurants continue to remind me that
their highest dollar days of the year are the Car Show and Sand Castle Festival, bringing in a tremendous
amount of sales tax dollars. These events also showcase our city, showing how truly unique our city is,
inviting them back again and again for more sales tax dollars.
i
The Chamber of Commerce could not continue to provide these wonderful events without some of the city's
support that we have enjoyed in the past.
Respectfidly,
1-L
