PURCHASE TWO ATV'S TO BE SHARED BY THE POLICE AND LIFEGUARD DEPARTMENTS SUMMARY OF REOUEST: e Staff is requesting City Council to adopt Resolution No. authorizing Budget Amendment No. allowing for the purchase of two all terrain quadrunner-type vehicles (ATV), a transportation trailer, and related equipment for the Police and Lifeguard departments to share on the beach. Funding is available in the existing Proposition 1721Supplemental Law Enforcement Support Fund grant. BACKGROUND: The City currently has no lightweight ATV program for use by first responder employees on the beach sands. Police and Lifeguard employees are charged with having more first responder, first-aid, and other related equipment available to them than in days past. The availability of four-wheel drive access to the beach sands is limited within the police department and line officers are not equipped for water and sand emergencies in the event Lifeguard staff is unavailable. Lifeguard staff does have four-wheel drive access to the beach sands but that access is limited to the few vehicles they have. They too are charged with having more first responder, first-aid, and other related equipment available to them than in days past. The trailer can also be used to transport police motorcycles to repair locations when necessary. e Staff is proposing to share public safety grant funds previously allocated to the police department through the purchase of two, all-terrain quadrunner-type vehicles, a single transportation trailer to service them with, and necessary emergency equipment related to theit use. AGENDA ITEM fI e FISCAL IMPACT: Minimal. This budget amendment will allow staff to use unallocated Proposition 172JSupplemental Law Enforcement Support Fund grant monies to affect the purchase of these low-cost vehicles. Maintenance for them is minimal and is projected at no more than $250.00 per year, per vehicle. RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the City Council to adopt Resolution No. authorizing a Budget Amendment No. not to exceed $15,000 from the Police Department's Proposition 172JSupplemental Law Enforcement Support Fund grant monies to execute the purchase of this equipment. e NOTED AND APPROVED: Greg Beau 'en, Interim - City Manager iAge~da ite~t,.'. ;.,\ e e RESOLUTION NUMBER_ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING A BUDGET AMENDMENT, NO. 07.13 FOR THE PURCHASE OF TWO ATV'S TO BE SHARED BY THE POLICE AND LIFEGUARD DEPARTMENTS WHEREAS, tho fiscal yesr 200612007 budgot ~uiros budgotsry smondmonts as outlined below: THE CITY COUNCil..
