MAY2007
<<;MOTORcYCLE AWARENESS MONTH"
WHEREAS, Motorcycle riding is a popular form of efficient
transportation and recreation for more than 1,000,000
people in California; and
WHEREAS, It is especially important that the citizens of
California be aware of motorcycles on the streets and
highways and recognize the importance of motorcycle safety;
and
e
WHEREAS, Motorcycles provide transportation that u&.e
fewer resources, cause less wear and tear on public roadways,
and increase available parking areas; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Seal
Beach, City Council does bereby proclaim the Month of May
as
"MOToaCY'CLE AWARENESS MONTH"

NATIONAL CRDfE VICT1MS' RIGHTS WEEK
April 22 - 28. 2007
WHEREAS. the National Crime Victims' Rights Week 2007 theme is
"VICTIMS RIGHTS: EVERY VICTlM. EVERY TIME"; and
WHEREAS. the National annual event sponsored by the National
Organization for Victims. Assistance [NOVAl. In Washington D.C. is
held to commemorate those who died violently and to show support
for the survivors: and
e
WHEREAS. the Greater Orange Chapter of Parents Of Murdered
Children {POMe} is a National, non-profit organization, that began
from the need for a support group; and
WHEREAS. this organtzation serves families and tiiends of those
whose loved one was a victim of homicide by providing information.
education. prevention. advocacy, and community outreach against
violence;
NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED. the City of Seal Beach,
City Council does hereby proclaim April 22 - 28, 2007 to be:

Proclamation
National Public Safety Dispatcher Week
April 8 - 14, 2007
WHEREAS, when an emergency occurs the prompt action of Public Safety
Dispatchers is paramount to the successful response to an emergency
event; and
e
WHEREAS, Public Safety Dispatchers are the first and most critical contact
our communities have with police, fire, and. emergency medical services-
monitoring their activities by radio providing them with critical
information and ensuring their safety; and
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Dispatchers of the West Cities Police
Communications Center have contnbuted substantially to the
apprehension of criminals, protection of life and property and ensuring the
safety of the communities they serve; and.
WHEREAS. each of our Public Safety Dispatchers has exhibited
professionaIism, dedication, compassion, and caring during the
performance of their job this past year;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE PROCLAIMED that the City of Seal
Beach, a member of the West Cities Joint Powers Authority, representing
the communities of Cypress, Los Alami.tos and. Seal Beach, does hereby
recognize the week of AprilS -14. 2007 as:

in Seal Beach and joins in honoring the women and men, whose diligence

WHEREAS. The Congress and President of the United States have
designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week
in which May 15th falls as National Police Week: and
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand
the duties, responsibilities. hazards, and sacrifices of the Ci1;y of
Seal Beach Pollee Department, and that members of the Seal Beach
Pollee Department recognize their du1;y to serve the people by
safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence
and disorder. and by protecting the innocent against deception and
the weak against oppression: and
WHEREAS, all citizens of Seal Beach join in commemorating law
enforcement officers. past and present, who, by their faithful and
loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered a ded1cated
service to the communi1;y and. in so doing. have established for
themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the
rights and securl1;y of all citizens;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Ci1;y of Seal Beach, Ci1;y
Council does hereby proclaim the week of May 8th through 15th,
2007 to be:
"Police Memorial Week"
and call upon all citizens of Seal Beach to observe May 15th, 2007,
as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement
officers who, through their courageous deeds. have made the
ultimate sacrifice in service to their communi1;y or have become
disabled in the performance of du1;y, and let us recognize and pay
respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.

rlETERAN APPRECIATION MONTH
MAY 2007
WHEREAS, the people of California appreciate and admire the
thousands of men and women who served in the armed forces to
protect and preserve their country and the freedoms enjoyed by all
Americans; and
e
WHEREAS, veterans possess a wide variety of valuable qualities,
including experience, maturity, leadership and loyalty, that make
them ideal candidates for employment; and
WHEREAS, the State of California, Employment Development
Department (EDD), is committed to ensuring that veterans receive
the services and programs to which they are entitled, and to
promoting employer interest in hiring veterans; and
WHEREAS, during Veterans Appreciation Month, state and local
agencies increase employer awareness about the benefits of hiring
veterans;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Seal Beach, City
Council does hereby proclaim May 2007 to be:

o/ector Control .9l.wareness WeeK.
.?pril23 - 29, 2007
WHEREAS. California State Legislature and the Mosquito & Vector
Control Association of California hope to Increase the public's
awareness of the threat of West Nile virus; activities of the
mosquito: vector research. control agencies, and their professional
staff work to minimize the health threat within California; and
e
WHEREAS. adequately funded mosquito and vector control. disease
surveillance, and public awareness programs are the best way to
prevent outbreaks of West Nile virus and other diseases borne by
mosquitoes and other vectors; and
WHEREAS. educational programs have been developed to Include
schools, civic groups, private industry, and government agencies. In
order to help the public understand how to protect themselves from
West Nile virus by: staying Indoors when mosquitoes are most
active at dawn and dusk; wearing pants, long-sleeved shirts, and
repellents containing DEET; eliminating standing water that can
support mosquito breeding; and alerting the local vector control
dlstrtct to slgntilcant mosquito Infestations.
NOW THEREFORE. LET IT BE PROCLAIMED that the City of Seal
Beach does hereby recognize April 23 - 29, 2007 as:
West Nile Virus - Mosquito - Vector Control
Awareness Week
