WORKS
SUMMARY OF REOUEST:
The proposed City Council action will approve the purchase of three mini-pickups for the
Police Department and a small SUY for the Public Works Department as approved in the
2006 Fleet Management Report.
BACKGROUND:
e
In June of 2006, Council adopted a Fleet Management Report during the 06/07 budget
process. The Public Works Department to manage the fleet for all the various
departments within the City and this document, allocated the number of vehicles per
department and outlined replacement guidelines.
As identified in the Council Approved Fleet Management Report update, the proposed
purchase would replace a total of four vehicles, three within the Police Department and
one within the Public Works Department funded by the General Fund. The three parking
enforcement vehicles will be replaced with three Ford Ranger Pickups and the
Engineering vehicle will be replaced with a mini SUY. The existing vehicles will be sold
as surplus property. The vehicles to be sold as surplus will be two 2000 Jeep Wranglers,
and a 1998 Subaru Legacy.
The County of Los Angeles has a cooperative purchase provision (# 495569), under their
Fleet Division bid, that would allow the City to purchase the mini pickups for a
competitive replacement cost of $14,606, plus tax and fees, for each truck. The State of
California has a cooperative purchase-provision (1-06-23-20) also allowing the City to
purchase mini SUY for $15,820 plus tax and fees. The City has used this program in the
past to purchase vehicles. Funds to outfit the parking enforcement vehicles have been
budgeted within the asset forfeiture fund.
FISCAL IMPACT:
e
Funding is available as budgeted for Fiscal Year 2006/07 within the Fleet Operations
Account.
