I am writing to urgently address the severe flooding issue onlronwood Ave, particularly between Dogwood and Elder Ave, which has been plagu-ing ourcommunity. As a long-time resident of Seal Beach for the past sixteen (16) years, l've witnessed the challengesposed by flooding firsthand. The recent flooding incidents have caused significant distress anddamage to the properties along lronwood Ave, including my neighbor at 4189 lronwood Ave, whoseliving room was inundated with water during the rast episode. When the pump was first installed a few years ago, I talked to the City of Seal Beach Engineers whoconducted water flow analysis in the area. Their assessment indicates that diverting the water fromElder to Candleberry Ave (Corner of Candleberry and lronwood) proved effective in tne past. Howevelthe current method, where the pump diverts water approximately 30 feet from one flooded inlet toanother flooded inlet, exacerbates the flooding situation for the residents of the 12 homes onlronwood Ave. Last week's flooding was particularly severe, with even the police department assisting in pushingflooded cars down our road. Moreover, on Elder and Candleberry, we witnessed two flatbed truckswith cars on them due to flooding, highlighting the extent of the problem. I made several recommendations to the City of Seal Beach via the non-emergency line, including: 1. - Blocking lronwood Ave from Dagwood to Elder when the pump is turned on.2- - Diverting water from Elder either East or West to Candleberry, as recommended byengineers several years ago"3" - installing signs indicating flooded areas during rain and directing traffic to Candleberry orF'leather streets.4" - Today is the first time l've seen the City of SB Publix Works and SBpD put up orange conesand redirect cars away from the flooded area, thank you. I kindly request your assistance in having the Engineer Department reassess the course of actiontaken several years ago, which proved effective in mitiEating flooding along lronwood Ave. It isimperative that we find a sustainable solution to prevent further damage and distress to ourcommunity. 2 Thank you for your consideratlon and prompt attention to this matter. I eagerly await your response and the City of Seal Beach's plans to address and remediate this pressing issue. Thisisnotatopic we take tightty. Staff has witnessed and worked the many storms that impact our community, andcan empathize with your experience. White it wil.L be never enough to combat nature's forces, we doappreciate the community cottaboration and the recommendations you made to find ways to atteviateimpacts as we identify a more permanent sotution. Whil.e this sounds easy enough, the sotutions that are long-term and that deaL with infrastructureimprovements catl for a significant investment. This is not to say, we are not pursuing this option, ontythat the City is chattenged with moving forward with this type of pubtic works project given the City'scurrent financial constraints. We are working ditigentty, chasing down potential, funding sources from atLlevets of government: federat, state, and county, and have discussed with el.ected officiats at au. Level.s tofind funding. Moreover, the City Council is dedicated to finding a sotution for areas of Seat Beach that areimpacted by these severe weather events. This is certainty one of our top concerns where severat Councit discussions were had on how to fund themuch-needed improvements. I want to assure you that we are tooking at possibl,e atternatives.
