Home My WebLink AboutCC Ord 1198 1985-10-28 ORDINANCE NUMBER 1/98 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 12 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, RELATING TO REGULATION OF MASSAGE ESTABLISHMENTS AND MASSAGE TECHNICIANS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH DOES HEREBY ORDAIN: Section 1. Chapter 12, Section l2-1(f), paragraph 1, of the Code of the City of Seal Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: "Recognized School of Massage" means: (1) any school or institution of learning which has been approved pursuant to the California Education Code, which teaches the theory, ethics, practice. profession. or work of massage, and which requires for graduation a resident course of study not less than five hundred (500) hours; or (2) any school or institution of learning outside the State of California which teaches the theory, ethics, practice, profession or work of massage, which meets the minimum requirements set forth in Title 3, Division 21 of the California Administrative Code, and which has been approved by its State Board of Education. I Section 2. Chapter 12, Section 12-l6(b) of the Code of the City of Seal Beach is hereby amended to read as fo 11 ows: "The application fee required under this section shall be in addition to any license, permit or fee required under any otber chapter of this Code, provided however, that the application fee shall be waived in the event the applicant has paid the fee required by Section l2-6(a) of this chapter. Section 3. Chapter 12, Section l2-l6(d)(2) of the Code of the City of Seal Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: (2) "A diploma or certificate of graduation from a recognized school of massage. In the event that the applicant has completed three (3) years of work experience as a massage technician, such applicant shall be required to have completed a resident course of study of not less than 250 hours, notwithstanding the provisions of Section 12-l(f) of this Chapter." Section 4. Chapter 12, Section l2-l7(b)(3) of the Code of the City of Seal Beach is hereby amended to read as fo 11 ows: (3) "The applicant has furnished an acceptable diploma or certificate of graduation from a recognized school of massage. In the event that the applicant has completed three (3) years of work experience as a massage technician, such appicant shall be required to have completed a resident course of study of not less than 250 hours, notwithstanding the provisions of Section 12-1(f) of this Chapter." I . I Section 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause the same to be published as required by law and the same shall take effect as provided by law.
