"Arbor Day 2025"
WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Mortan first proposed to the Nebraska Board of
Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of more than one million
trees; and,
WHEREAS, in 1874 the first Arbor Day proclamation was officially declared in the
state of Nebraska, but is today observed in all 50 states as a day to encourage tree
planting; and,
WHEREAS, trees can reduce stormwater runoff, reduce soil erosion, reduce
atmospheric pollutants, filter particulates from the air, and provide habitat and food
for wildlife; and,
WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, reduce heating and cooling
costs, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community,
and,
WHEREAS, trees are a source of joy, encourage our children to learn and play, and
foster a sense of unity and civic pride; and,
WHEREAS, National Arbor Day is observed on the last Friday of April.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Landau, do hereby recognize April 25th, 2025, as Arbor
Day in the City of Seal Beach and I call this obserV2nce to the attention of our citizens.
