Subject:Airbnb permit concerns for 521 Riviera Dr.
Madam Mayor and County members. Thank you again for giving me, Myra Romero, a long time resident
of 49 years at 517 Riviera Dr. and a neighbor of the address of interest. I am again expressing my deepest
concerns to you, City Council of approving the Airbnb to Charolette Hefti, 153 Riviera Dr., which is
approximately 55 feet from the DROP-OFF@ PICK-UP for the elementary children @ McGaugh school.
I have presented to you, the council over 209 signatures of Seal Beach residents with the majority being
parents of school and baseball children. While speaking with them they were VERY SURPRISED AND
DISAPPOINTED that you would give this address a permit due to who will be renting this place for the
SAFETY of the KIDS. PLEASE, let’s not wait until there is something serious that happens before we stop
this permit. I will give you an example, in the track which is located before you go into College Park West
had an Airbnb which was renting out to people who were doing Porn movies inside plus had a drug
issue. It took the whole neighborhood and awhile to shut them down. This was also located down the
street from a Park.
Misconceptions About Background Checks
Airbnb states that while it conducts background checks, these are neither comprehensive nor
guaranteed. Checks rely on third-party vendors and public databases, which are vulnerable to false or
incomplete information. Moreover, these platforms cannot detect issues if guests use false
identification.
My friend , Scot Scarboug who owns a business here in Seal Beach, plus signed the petition said that he
grew up in New Port Beach and the Airbnb completely ruined the neighborhood as it was turned into a
party town. I and many others are surprised that this lottery was passed without the residents voting on
it.
I am attaching pictures with this letter to show you her backyard which is located right next to our two
bedrooms. Yes, it is a party house as she advertises on her web site. How would you like to live nextdoor
to this??? We’ve already experienced her guest over the limit of 8. They had over 15 in pool and jucuzzi
drinking and after 10;00 pm. There was someone in her motorhome at 1:00am which is illegal without a
permit.
The owner, Charolette owns a dolphin motorhome which resides half in front of her home and half in
front of ours. Not only does she not move it like the law requires every 72 hours, it is blocking the parking
sign which is supposed to restrict parking certain times of the day for the residents. It only gets moved
on sweeping days.
PARKING is another reason for not renewing her permit. We the residents have received permits which
we pay for, for allowing us to park in front of our homes due to the baseball parking. We already have
limited parking and now we are going to have more due to her renters. Obviously, she doesn’t follow
rules. Out of the 9 homes that are on Riviera there is only one,(who is renting )that are totally against

having an Air B&B on our block and I want to end this with the main reason BEING, THE SAFETY OF THE
CHILDREN.
