THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 7, Civil Service, Section 7-38, Holidays and Days Off, of the Code of the City of Seal Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 7-38. Holidays and Days Off. (a) Police Depal"tment. Full-time sworn Police Depal"tment employees who work the twenty-four (24) hour rotation schedule that provides around the clock coverage, shall be granted s~xty-four (64) hours of accumulated holiday time each calendar year in lieu of holidays they are required to work. The Chief ~f Police may schedule such time off in lieu of holidays con- sistent with department work load and the best personnel practices and scheduling practices. Full-time sworn Police Depal"tment employees who work the 5-2 shift by virtue of their job assignments shall be granted a total of eight (8) holidays. New Year's Day (January 1) Washington's Birthday (Third Monday in February) Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) Independence Day (July 4) Labor Day (First Monday in September) Veterans Day (November 11) Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November) Christmas Day (December 25) A total of eight (8) holidays annually (b) Other Employees. Every full-time employee of the City, except employees of the Police Department who are classified as safety members of the Public Employees' Retirement System, shall be granted the following holidays with pay: New Year's Day (January 1) . Washington's Birthday (Third Monday in February) Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) Independence Day (July 4) Labor Day (First Monday in September) Veteran I s Day (November 11) Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Tihursday in November) The Calendar day following Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day (December 25) A total of nine (9) holidays annually In the event one of the aforementioned holidays falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed as a holiday. In the event one of the aforementioned holidays falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed as a holiday. Notwithstanding the provisions of this subsection, an employee of the City who generally is ~ssignod to an eight hour day on a five day week basis or other sim~lar schedule of work an~ wilen it is ileceSSHY f!lr ~uch p.mpl:,yee to be scl1eduled for work on holidays, such pmployee shall be granted eight day~ off with pay each calendar year in lieu of the above-designated holidays, All employees on a ten-hour work day, forty-hour week will receive ten (10) hours pay for each recognized holiday. /:'" ". .. f Ordinance Number //:213 (c) Employees not eligible.
