HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRC Min 1997-04-30 . . . . -- Seal Beach Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes For April 30,1997 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Johnson at 7:08p,m. Flaa Salute RollCall Chairperson Johnson, Commissioners Chattier, Sustarsic, Aaron and Watson present. Staff present - Director Nancy Beard. Approval of Aaenda The agenda was approved as presented. MSC Aaron I Watson/ All Approval of Minutes The minutes of April 30, 1997 were approved as submitted, MSC Aaron/ Watson/All Oral Communications None. Commission Information Items A. Review of Park & Facility Policy - Comments and Concerns The Commission discussed language changes in the current Use and Rental Schedule for Parks and Facilities. A fee change was suggested for pool parties. The Director will report on current pool party rental fees at the May 28th meeting, Following this discussion, the policy will be re-printed with any changes suggested by the Commission and presented at the June 18th meeting, Directors Report B. Commission Meeting Calendar The Director passed out the year's meeting schedule to each Commissioner, C. Summer Youth Programs The Director reviewed the Summer Brochure and the new programs geared toward the Junior High School ages. Each of the Commissioners were . . . encouraged to become very familiar with the summer offerings to assist the department in promoting city sponsored events. D. Goals Statement The goals statement developed in the March meeting was presented to the Commission. As proposed, it reads.....lt is the purpose of the Park and Recreation Commission to meet and plan for the recreation and open space needs of the citizens of Seal Beach emphasizing quality recreational programming and clean, safe parks and to advise the City Council on such matters. Additional information from the Director included a reminder that the Commission will not meet in July and August therefore at the September meeting an election for Chair and Vice Chair will take place as an order of business. Commissioner Sustarsic and the Director will meet with the College Park East Neighborhood Association on June 3n1 at 7:30pm to discuss their fundraising efforts for Bluebell Park, The Director thanked all the Commissioners who assisted with the annual 10K race. Chair Johnson provided a break down of all the proceeds for the Commissioners. . The entries to the photo contest were discussed, voted on and awarded. Chair Johnson discussed reviewing the purchasing of tee shirts for recreational events perhaps making them an optional purchase, Commission Concerns Commissioner Chattier shared information about advanced dog training classes, Commissioner Sustarsic thanked the Parks division for the recent tree plantings at Astor and Heather Parks. The Commissioner also raised a concern over the lack of disabled parking at McGaugh school. Commissioner Watson gave a recap of the Gum Grove Park activities and volunteered to sit on the City's Volunteer Tree Committee Board, Commissioner Aaron brought up concerns expressed to her by residents regarding the heat at the McGaugh Pool. The director explained that the pool users had experienced a few cold days at the pool but that the temperature seemed to stabilize in the last few weeks. . . . . . . Chair Johnson spoke of forming a fundraising committee in an effort to raise moneys needed for McGaugh Pool repairs, The meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm. MSC Watson/Aaron/All
