Seal Beach Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes For November 6,1996 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Johnson at 7:35p,m, The flag salute was waived as there was no flag present. RollCall Commissioners Aaron, Chattier, Johnson, Sustarsic and Watson all present. Staff present included, Director Nancy Beard and Supervisor Kathleen McGlynn Approval of Aaenda The agenda was approved as presented, Approval of Minutes The minutes of September 25, 1996 were approved as submitted, Motion Watson/second Aaron, . Oral Communications None, Commission Information Items A. As requested by Commissioner Chattier, a discussion ensued regarding improvements at Edison Park, Items left to accomplish included reinstatement of a concrete pad mistakenly removed from the park, It was suggested that when Commissioner Chattier and the community are ready to rededicate the concrete pad, the Recreation staff would be available to assist in the event. B. Recreation Commission Chair Johnson and Founders Day Committee Chair Watson commended each of the Founders Day committee members for their outstanding work in creating another successful event Directors Report The director reported to the Commissioners the status of the McGaugh Pool. A pump motor was being replaced and the pool had been shut down for four days. . C. A facilities tour, to be arranged by the director, was discussed with the new Commission members, In addition, a yearly park and facilities inspection project was presented to the Commission for their approval. Each year prior I . . to the budget process, the 'Commissioners will review each park and facilities for safety as well as capital improvement suggestions, In addition, discussion took place regarding the timing of a Commission goal setting meeting, It was determined that the January Commission meeting would adjourn to that working session, D. The Commission discussed training opportunities provided by the California Park and Recreation Society's Commissioners and Board Members section. It was determined that the Park and Recreation Chairperson will retain membership for the Commission, E. A summer season class summary report was given to the Commissioners for information, Supervisor Kathleen McGlynn provided explanation of the report for the Commissioners, Kathleen further informed the Commissioners of the new Gymnastics offerings scheduled for the Winter session, Commission Concerns Commissioners requested the following topics be placed on the January agenda for discussion: Tree Committee, Gum Grove Park, Astor Park, and park amenities, . The meeting was adjourned at 8:35pm, The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission is January 22, 1997, 7:30pm in the City Council Chambers, .
