SEAL BEACH PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
.The Seal Parks and Recreation Commission met in regular session on Wednesday, January 24, 1996 in the City
Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Finch at 7:35 p.m. and the Pledge of
Allegiance was recited.
ROLL CALL
Present: Finch, Johnson, Watson, Gray, Stewart
Absent: None
Also in attendance Recreation Supervisor, A. Kirk Zuniga
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Minutes of January 24, 1996 were approved as written.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Jane McCloud gave a report on the Gum Grove Park Evaluation. Linda Remero, a consultant for the State of
California, did an evaluation on Gum Grove Park. Her findings confirmed the danger and problems the park is
facing with dying and infected trees. The Gum Grove Park committee would like to have all infected trees
taken down by March, which is the latest they can be removed. Committee is to meet with Bob Eagle and Steve
esadum regarding possible City assistance and direction.
Ms McCloud expressed the need for residents to be educated on the importance of proper trimming and upkeep
of the trees in the park and suggested an educational program for them,
COMMISSION ITEMS
A. Staff reported that there will be a beach volleyball class and surfing lessons offered during the summer of
1996.
B. Class Activity Report was reviewed,
C. Question on whether or not water machines have been put in at Marina Park.
D. Commission was given a report on financial status of Recreation Department.
.. Spring 10K Run slated for May 4: 1996.

. COMMISSION CONCERNS

Supervisor Zuniga: Reported on Zoeter Hockey Rink - Rules and restriction signs have been placed.
Rink Supervisor to start gathering names for possible future leagues. Rink will be open during Summer
for local Day Camps. Helmets were purchased for use by the youth using rink.
Commissioner Johnson: Asked the Recreation Department if any Volunteer help would be needed in the
absence of a Director. Recreation Department will let Commission know if help is needed,
Chairperson Finch: Distributed the P.E. right of Way Specific Plan for the Green Belt and asked all
Commissioners to review for next meeting.
