SEAL BEACH PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Minutes of 9-28-94 The Seal Beach Parks and Recreation commission met in regular session on Wednesday, July 27, 1994 in the city Council chambers. The meeting was called to order by Vice- Chairperson Mary Helen Finch at 7:30 PM and the Pledge of Allegiance was given. ROLL CALL Present: Finch, Johnson, Watson, Whyte Absent: Davies (vacation) APPROVAL OF MINUTES No corrections. MSC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS . Lisa Chat1er addressed the commission re the progress being made by the Edison Park improvement committee. She stated that the group had raised some $6,000 of its goal of $13-15,000. She asked that the commission give consideration to awarding Quimby funds to their project. The commission complemented the successes of the Edison Park committee. COUNCIL ITEMS Renaming of College Park Park. The topic was referred to the CPE homeowner's organization for their input at their November meeting. Preliminary discussion re the allocation of Quimby funds. The commissioners suggested the following projects for consideration: Edison Park playground, Gum Grove Park furnishings, Shape11 Park ro11arb1ade area, beach volleyball courts, tree p1antings, refurbishing of the Yellow House, McGaugh Pool upgrading. Additional input will be sought, a prioritized list will be established, cost estimates will be established, and the final list of recommendations will be submitted to the City Council for their consideration and approval. The following appointments to the Committee were ratified by the commission. Forsythe and Bob Eagle. MSC Founders Day Dan Smoot, Riley . DIRECTOR'S REPORT Financial reports re summer swim lessons, recreational swim program and recreation classes (summer brochure) were presented. . . . COMMISSION CONCERNS Whyte discussed the need to replace the sand at the Heather Park tot lot. Watson suggested that consideration be given to presenting classes for surfing and for adult volleyball. Whyte suggested a tear-out in the quarterly brochures to enable residents to suggest new classes. Johnson suggested that the department might avail themselves more frequently of the McGaugh School distribution of promotional flyers. She also suggested a photography class The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be 7:30 PM, on Wednesday, November 30, 1994. (This is the fifth Wednesday of the month. The fourth Wednesday is the night before Thanksgiving and also a scheduled Planning Commission meeting date.) -J
