SEAL BEACH PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
The Seal Beach Parks and Recreation Commission met in
regular session on Wednesday, July 27, 1994 in the City
Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by
Chairman Davies at 7:32 PM and the Pledge of Allegiance was
given.
ROLL CALL
Present: Davies, Finch, Johnson, Watson, Whyte
.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Two corrections were requested - a
typographical error - "bread" was changed to "break" and
Commissioner Watson asked that the minutes reflect two
additional points she had made re the Edison Park sand
volleyball court: (1) Watson stated that she had reviewed
other locations but felt that the intended location was the
best possible. (2) Watson pointed out that volleyball was
indeed a sport enjoyed by adults as well as young people.
ELECTION OF COMMISSION CHAIRPERSON:
Dick Davies was nominated to serve a second term as
Chairperson and Mary Helen Finch was nominated to the
position of Vice Chairperson. MSC
COUNCIL ITEMS:

Renaming of neighborhood parks in the College Park East
section of the city.
Commissioner Whyte presented a petition signed by 34
residents of CPE. The petition requested that Shape11 Park
be renamed Almond Park and that Gummere Park be changed back
to its original name, Bluebell Park. The petitioners felt
that the new names would be more in keeping with the theme
used to name the area streets. ~
The Commission requested that their recommendation be
forwarded to the City Council for consideration and action.

The Commission requested the Director to inquire of
staff as to whether the City General Plan - Recreation
Element was in need of review/update at this time. ~

Two additional volunteers were added to the Founders
Day Committee - Dr. Nora Oakley to assist with finance and
Jane Vineyard, representing the Chamber of Commerce. MSC
COMMISSION CONCERNS
Discussion took place regarding the need for restrooms
at the city parks. The Director was requested to research
the cost of purchasing one or more portable restrooms and
the weekly charge of servicing.
The meeting adjourned atapproximately 9:15 PM.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Parks and
Recreation Commission will be 7:30 PM, Wednesday, September
28, 1994.
