HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRC Min 1992-10-28 SEAL BEACH RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION !. The Seal Beach Recreation and Parks Commission met in regular session on Wednesday, October 28, 1992 in City Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Secretary Osteen at 7:31 p.m. and the Pledge of Allegiance was given. ROLL CALL Present: Absent: Davies, Finch, Whyte, Williams Thomas (Arrived late) APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of January 22, 1992 and April 22, 1992 were approved as written. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS There were no oral communications. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS A Resolution honoring Commissioner Petersen's service to his community and to the Commission was circulated for signatures, to be presented at a later date. OLD BUSINESS Osteen asked that the Agenda be amended so those in the audience who wished to speak regarding the Marina Park Equipment could do so at this time. . Osteen explained the program. Discussion followed with a final decision to hold a Special Commission Meeting to receive resident input regarding the type of equipment preferred. Tina Stevenson, Seal Beach Play Group teacher, volunteered to provide a flyer on which individuals could make their comments if unable to attend the meeting. Flyer to be available at Marina Park, Mary Wilson Library and City Hall. The North Seal Beach Community Center rerurbishment program was discussed as general information for the Commission. No Commission action was taken. The Founders' Day program was discussed. Commissioner Whyte gave a detailed presentation on how the program could be conducted as an annual event. Whyte volunteered to prepare a presentation for City Council and on a motion by Commissioner Davies, seconded by Commissioner Williams, was directed to do so. NEW BUSINESS Rental fees for the use of College Park fields were discussed. Commissioner Whyte had questions regarding how much park area was available when a field was reserved and made comments regarding how the system could be improved. Recreation Supervisor in charge of sports, Kirk Zuniga, spoke on the issue and agreed that the field rental agreement could use an "area-of-use" section. Osteen indicated that Zuniga was in the process of reviewing fees and that an increase was to be recommended for field use by adult and non-resident groups as well as a one-month/two-month advance reservation clause for resident/non-resident groups.
