The Seal Beach Recreation and Parks Commission met in adjourned session on Wednesday, November 1, 1989, in the City Manager's Conference Room. The meeting was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by Chairman Weiler and the Pledge of Allegiance was given. ROLL CALL Present: Absent: Petersen, Procter, Thomss, Weiler Reilly SPECIAL AGENDA ITEM - MOLA PROJECT Chairman Weiler re-opened the adjourned meeting and asked if there was a staff report. Secretary Osteen gave his report and Chairman Weiler then asked Mola Development representative Kirk Evans for an updated cost analysis. Mr. Evans indicated that proposed development costs had been reviewed and the park could be built, as per the revised plan, provided landscape costs (trees, shrubs, turf) could be kept at $l.25/sq.ft. (down from $2/sq.ft.) and the Community Center construction costs could be kept at $50/sq.ft. (down from $lOO/sq.ft.). Discussion followed and the Commission agreed to the lower construction and landscape costs, provided ten (10) to twelve (12) full grown trees were included for the picnic area. The cost for these trees was not to be reflected in the total landscape costs. Mr. Evans indicated this would not be a problem. Further discussion followed and on a motion by Commissioner Petersen, second by Procter, the revised park plan (see Attachment "A" for the spproved list of psrk amenities) was approved. Osteen was then directed to forward the plan to City Council for their review. . At this point, Chairman Weiler announced that he and his family were moving from Seal Beach and that he was reluctantly resigning his position on the Commission. Osteen presented Mr. Weiler with a plaque in recognition of his five years of service to the citizens of Seal Beach and thanked him on behalf of the City for his friendship and dedicated service and indicated that he would be missed. Commissioner Procter requested that it be made a matter of record that the Commission was deeply indebted to Mr. Weiler for his efforts on the Commission (having served two (2) terms as Chairman) and extended his personal thanks as did the other Commissioners. ADJOURNMENT On a motion by Commissioner Procter, second by Thomas, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m. - ~ &/~- ~c steen ~ Secretary 4IJ Recreation and Parks Commission
