HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRC Min 1989-08-30 . . e SEAL BEACH RECREATION AND PARKS COMMISSION The Seal Beach Recreation and Parks Commission met in adjourned session on Wednesday, August 30, 1989, in City Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Weiler and the Pledge of Allegiance was given. ~LL ~U present: Absent: Petersen, Procter, Thomas, Weiler Reilly (arrived 7:34 p.m.) SPECIAL AGENDA ITEM - Proposed Park - Mola Project Chairman Weiler opened discussion of the Special Agends Item by introducing Kirk Evans of the Kols Development Corporation. Kr. Evans described the proposed psrk amenities. A brief discussion followed and Chairman Weiler opened the meeting for public input. Dan Campbell, 220 Coastline, spoke on behalf of the Seal Beach Tennis Club, stating the Club recommendation was to accept the Kola concept of eight lighted tennis courts and one lighted center court, with the exception of the cabana. The Club~s recommendation was to expand the cabana to 18~ X 78~. He also mentioned the need for a good maintenance program. Roland Kelly, 1125 Catalina, spoke regarding the need for additional amenities to the cabana, water and some way of heating food. He also stated the need for restrooms in the adjacent area. Mario Voce, 730 Catalina, started to discuss the Gum Grove Park restoration needs. Chairman Weiler informed him that Gum Grove Park was not on the agenda. The special agenda item was to include the proposed park within the Mola development. Mr. Voce then discussed the idea of native-type landscaping around the Duck Pond. Wendy Morrison, 1729 Park be continued to also stated the need Crestview, requested that the trail through the Gum extend around the Duck Pond and the tennis center. for police access to each of these areas. Grove She Fred Chacon, 1862 Anchor Way, representing the Seal Beach Kids~ Baseball Association, expressed a need for three new fields. The Commission requested a show of hands of those in support of the Duck Pond. There was no response from the audience. Gwen Forsythe, 523 Riviera, stated the need for a Tot Lot with equipment for small children. Wendy Morrison spoke again suggesting a need for soccer fields. Dan Campbell spoke again, suggesting the use of Zoeter Field for a tennis center, with additional softball fields designed in the Mola development. . . ----- -- Commissioners began to discuss the input given by the audience. A ten-m1nute break was taken. Discussion continued. ADJOURNMENT Thomas moved, Reilly second, to adjourn the meeting at 9:10 p.m. to the third Wednesday in September.
