SEAL BEACH PARK AND RECREATION COI."IISSION
The Seal Beach Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session on Tuesday,
May 2, 1972, in the Council Chambers, City Administration Building. The meeting
was called to order by Chairman Torern at 7:45 p.M. and the Pledge of Allegiance
loJas given.
ROLL CALL
Present: Dreyer, Ised~ Kredell, Torern
Absent: Herrera
APPROVAL OF ~INI~ES
Dreyer moved, Iseda second to approve the minutes of March 7, 1972 as \iritten.
AYES: Dreyer, Iseda, Kredell, Torem

ORAL COl-IMUNICATIONS
There were no oral communications.
KRITTEN CO~l.\!UNICATIONS
There were 110 liri tten communications.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Bike Trails System. Osteen reported that a Special ~reeting would be held
with departmental staff in the near future to discuss bike trails. He also re-
ported on the proposed bike trail plan for the San Gabriel River.
Discussion of the beach bicycle parking lot folloNed. (Commissioner H~rrera arrived.)
2. Shapell Park. The crash barrier and equipment relocation were discussed.
Dreyer moved, second by Herrera, to recolllr.tend City Council conduct an investi-
gation of the barrier along the San Diego Freeway as it affects Shapell and
Bluebell Park.

3. Golden l~est College Cultural Events. Osteen reported the citizens of Seal

Beach are eligible and that the names of the commissioners have been placed on
the mailing list.
Discussion followed regarding tour of existing and proposed park areas. It
was decided the tour would be Sun., May 21, at 8:00 a.m. The commissioners
requested the City ~lanager be invited to attend.
Osteen reported on the proposed lease of an additional ten acres behind Edison
Park.
NEW BUSINESS
Osteen reported the City Manager had requested the commission recommend a name
for Gum Grove Park for its dedication. Discussion folloNed. It was moved,
seconded and unanimously approved to name the area Gum Grove Park.
