SEAL BEACH PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION

The Seal Beach Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session on Tuesday,
November 2, 1971, in the Council Chambers, City Administration Building. The
meeting was called to order by Chairman Torem at 7:50 p.m. and the Pledge of
Allegiance was given.
ROLL CALL
Present: Herrera, Iseda, Kredell, Torem
Absent: Dreyer
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Herrera moved, Kredell second to approve the minutes of October 12, 1971 as written.
AYES: Herrera, Iseda, Kredell, Torem
NOES: None Motion carried.
ORAL CO~1MUNICATIONS
.... Ned Cisco, 701 Bayside Drive, Seal Beach, made a verbal request and submitted a .
letter requesting use of the proposed Edison Park Softball Field as a home field
for the T-Shirt League.
Ned Cisco and Mrs. Al Bolton expressed a desire to have the diamond completed for
spring practice, 1972. They stated that there are one hundred organized fathers
who would be willing to help in any way necessary and that possibly the Kids'
Baseball Association Board would make a donation toward the completion of the
grading, watering system and grass seed.
WRITTEN CO~roNICATIONS
Torem read the letter from Ned Cisco.
Osteen reported on status of Edison Park Development.
The Commissioners directed Osteen to request a completion date to determine the
possibility of the field being used this spring.
~ It was suggested by the Commission that the Board of the Kids' Baseball Association
draft a letter listing their committments to assist the project, both physically
and ~inancially, and stating their intention of use. The Commission would then
~ direct the letter to the City Council.
Osteen was directed to secure actual-cost figures for the completion of the area.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Osteen reported that he had secured an additional copy of the Bicycle Trails
System for the Commissioners to study. Discussion followed. Iseda volunteered
to study the report and update the Commissioners' original maps of the pathways
before the next meeting.
2. Osteen reported that Leisure World and the Huntington Beach High School District
would process the applications and distribute the Senior Citizen's Gold Cards.
3. Osteen reported on the status of the eel grass study.
4. Osteen reported for Dreyer on Senior Citizen Film.
NEW BUSINESS
Osteen reported on status of Gum Grove Park and on the discussions he has had with
.
Mr. Gene Foley, local resident, who has volunteered to assist in setting up a
community clean-up program for the Gum Grove. Mr. Foley is a high school science
teacher and member of the Long Beach Sierra Club and Audubon Chapter.
