SEAL BEACH PARK ANn REC~EATION CO~NISSION
The Seal Beacl\ Park and Recreation Commission met in regular session on Tu~sday"
March 2, 1971 in the Council Chambers, City Administration Building. The meeting'
was called to order by COr.llllissioner Herrera at 7 :45 P .~I. and the Pledge of
Allegiance was given.
ROLL CALL
Present: Herrera, Iseda, Torem (Dreyer arrived at 8:00 P.M.)
Absent: Kredell

Iseda moved, Torem second, to approve the minutes of February 2, 1971.

There were no' oral communications.
WR ITTEN C01v1!-lUNICATIONS
1. Osteen read the letter from ~'ark Payne, President of the Seal Beach Swim Club,
regarding the Third Annual Rough Water Swim Meet scheduled for July 25, 1971.
Torem moved, second by Iseda, to recommend that City Council grant permission to the
Swim Club to host the swim meet North of the pier and operate a food stand on the beach
during the meet, as requested.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Torem reported on his February 20 meeting Io/i th the Ci ty ~lanager, City Attorney,
and several College Park residents to discuss and tour the land proposed for Bluebell
park.
2. Discussion followed concerning the leasing of the building at the corner of Main
~ and Electric for the Teen Center Project. 'Osteen reported that it has been leased,
but a portion of the building could be sub-leased for $700 a month. Torem suggested
that it be mentioned to the committee organizing this project that the additional
expense of installing the necessary partitions would probably be a prohibitive
factor in securing the lease on a monthly basis.
3. The memorandum from the City Engineer and map regarding the proposed bicycle paths
were discussed. Eric Lindstrom, 21S - 14th Street, stated his approval of the proposals
and requested the Commission continue their support of this idea.
Torem suggested that the Police Department should provide signs to designate the'
existence of the bike paths and that a financial analysis be made of the cost involved.
Iseda suggested reflector-type lane dividers to mark paths for night use.
4. Freeway ramps affecting Bluebell Park were discussed.
