International Holocaust Remembrance Day — January 27, 2026
WHEREAS, The United Nations (UN) General Assembly passed a resolution in November
of 2005 to designate the 27th of January as the International Day of Commemoration in
memory of the victims of the Holocaust; and,
WHEREAS, since 2005, the UN and its member states have held commemoration
ceremonies to mark the anniversaries of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp and
to honor the victims and survivors of the Holocaust; and,
WHEREAS, this year on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the City of Seal
Beach commemorates the 81 st Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of International Holocaust Remembrance Day is to serve as a
date of the official commemoration of the victims of the Nazi regime, and to promote
Holocaust education throughout the world; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach joins its Jewish community to honor International
Holocaust Remembrance Day and encourages all community members to reflect on this
day of remembrance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, We, City Council of the City of Seal Beach do
hereby declare January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in the City
of Seal Beach and encourage all community members to reflect on this day of
remembrance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of
Seal Beach to be affixed this 26th day of January 2026.
