HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 2889 1979-06-11 I I I WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, . , RESOLUTION NUMBER ~f1tJ -Iii A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH ESTABLISHING ITS STRONG OPPOSITION TO INVOLUNTARY INTER-SCHOOL BUSING OF SCHOOL CHI-LOREN. the taxpayers mandated through passage of Proposition 13 a reduction in government spending; and involuntary inter-district busing of school children will cost tens of millions of dollars; and inter-district school curriculums would have to be controlled via state directives, and the local control of schools as provided for in the State Education Code would be significantly reduced or lost; and tax dollars spent for involuntary inter-district busing of school childred could better be spent for reductions in class size, materials and improvement of curriculums to establish higher levels of achievement in reading, writing, mathematics and industrial arts; and such busing could result in placing school children in potentially more endangering situations as a result of increased unnecessary travel; and Senate Bill 217 will call for a special statewide election on November 6, 1979 which deals with the question of busing; and November 6, 1979 is the date on which 56 of the 58 counties in California are already voting on the issue of busing. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, strongly supports SB 217 and urges state, county and local officials to stand united in support of same. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach does support the State Constitutional Amendment (SCA 2) and recommends that a copy of this resolution be sent to the appropriate State legislators.
