RESOLUTION NUMBER 2568
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY -OF SEAL BEACH SUPPORTING THE ACQUISITION
BY THE COUNTY OF ORANGE OF A REGIONAL PARK ON
THE NIKE BASE IN THE SECOND SUPERVISORIAL
DISTRICT.
WHEREAS,
the Nike Base, in the Second Supervisorial District, has
been identified as a park site since 1963; and
WHEREAS ,
the original park site was reduced from 240 acres to 85
acres because of a desire for more industrial land in
the City of Garden Grove; and
WHEREAS ,
these 85 acres were later changed in the Garden Grove
land use plan from open-space park land to industrial
zoning in February, 1976; and
WHEREAS ,
the Second Supervisorial District has only one 92 acre
park on which one (1) acre is usable as a picnic area;
and
WHEREAS, this will be one of the last opportunities to acquire a
park site in the Second Supervisorial District; and
WHEREAS, the residential land planning of higher density in the
local areas was accomplished with the intent of an
open-space park on the Nike Base; and
WHEREAS, the Second Supervisorial District has only three-tenths
(.3) acre per 1,000 population, compared to the Orange
County average of 4.84 acres per 1,000 population;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Seal Beach does hereby urge the Orange County Board of Supervisors
to acquire land on the Nike Base for open-space park development.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the Ci~ty Seal
Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the dZr~?day of~IJ
