RESOLUTION NUMBER -'5"6% - A
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE" POSITION
CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO INCLUDE THE POSITION OF
DEPUTY CITY CLERK.
WHEREAS, the Position Classification Plan of the City of Seal Beach
does not include the position of Deputy City Clerk, a
job classification the Personnel Officer, the Civil Service
Board and the City Clerk have recommended the inclusion as
a necessary function in City operations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach does hereby amend the Position Classification Plan to
include the attached job classification of Deputy City Clerk.
PASS D, APPROVED AND 'ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal

DEPUTY ~ CLERK
DEFINITION
Under direction of the City' Clerk and performs related work as required.
TYPICAL TASKS
Serves as principal assistant to the City Clerk and performs all the
duties of the City Clerk in her absence. Supervises other clerical
employees performing routine to complex clerical work. Takes and
transcribes the minutes of the Council meeting and other City Council
related tasks. Maintains complex filing system for the public record.
Registers voters and files registrations and petitions. Work is
performed independently within established laws, policies and procedures
and is reviewed by the City Clerk through observation, conferences 'and
reports. Performs other related work as requested.
.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is unique in that it is directly responsible to an
elected official with guidelines established by the Government Code and
the Charter. ' ,

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
High school graduate.,~ncluding or supplemented by courses in typing,
stenography and office management. Two years experience in responsible
office and clerical work. Ability to meet the public and to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and
city officials. ' "
Ability to take dictation at 90 wpm, type accurately at 60 wpm, establish
and control public,records, understand, interpret and explain general
administrative policies. ..
