RESOLUTION NUMBER ~t'~1
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH VEHEMENTLY OPPOSING ANY PlAN to REMOVE
THE NAVY FROM ADMINISTRATION OF THE LOS ALAMITOS
NAVAL AIR STATION (LANAS) AND SUPPORTING THE
CURRENT LEVEL OF OPERATIONS AT LANAS AS THE MAX-
IMUM. COMPATIBLE, SAFE USE OF LOS ALAMITOS NAVAL
AIR STATION.
WHEREAS,
the City of Seal Beach opposes any plan which might make the
Los Alamitos Naval Air Station (LANAS) facilities available
for fixed-wing jet aircraft, be it military or commercial;
and
the City of Seal Beach opposes the proposal of the Department
of Defense to replace the Navy as the host service for the
present multi-branch Armed Forces Reserve Center on the Los
Alamitos Naval Air Station; and
it is the opinion of the City that the current level of operations
at the LANAS is compatible with surrounding communities, and a
proposed plan to transfer the base to the California Air National
Guard in fiscal year 1977 would make the runway/airstrip facilities
available for fixed-wing jet aircraft and/or some form of joint
military/commercial use; and
WHEREAS, the facts concerning the hazards to adjoining communities from
jet operations at LANAS such as noise pollution and interference
with air traffic patterns at nearby Long Beach Municipal Airport,
are well documented; and
WHEREAS-
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach has, on eight separate occasions adopted
resolutions in opposition to any joint use by commercial air-
craft, and the City stands in opposition to the Orange County
Board of Supervisors and the Orange County Airport Land Use
Commission requests and recommendations for joint use at LANAS.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach
consistent with the position of Seal Beach in opposition to military and/or
commercial jet operations at LANAS, and in the belief that a transfer of
administration of LANAS from the Navy to the National Guard would make LANAS
available for jet aircraft operations, the City vehemently opposes any plan
, to remove the Navy from administration of LANAS.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City supports the current level of operations
at LANAS as the maximum, compatible, safe use of Los Alamitos Naval Air
Station.
