HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 1530 1967-03-20 I I I or ."~ RESOLUTION NO. 1$ a" A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH RELATING TO LEGISLATION TO REVISE THE MAYO-BREED FORMULA FOR THE ALLOCATION OF STATE GASOLINE TAXES. WHEREAS, state highway needs for the Southern Counties group, based on the urgency of traffic demands and the provision of equal state- wide traffic services, are in excess of sixty per cent (60%) of the state-wide total; and WHEREAS, the existing critical traffic congestion, accidents and facilities in the southern counties area must be immediately alleviated; and WHEREAS, the future economic and sociological growth and development of the cities in the thirteen southern counties is dependent on the construction of an adequate highway and freeway system; and WHEREAS, based on the pertinent indices of population, vehicle registration, and assessed valuation, the thirteen southern counties area of Southern California provides in excess of sixty per cent (60%) of the state-wide highway revenue; and WHEREAS, the antiquated Mayo-Breed Formula allocates only fifty- five per cent (55%) of the state-wide highway and freeway construc- tion funds to the South which curtails the budgeting of urgently needed projects and eliminates a program of equitable future facili- ties in this area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach, California, A Charter City, supports a legislative program to amend the Mayo-Breed Formula to allocate a minimum of sixty per cent (60%) of the State Highway Construction Funds to the thirteen county area in the southern part of the State, and requests each Board of Supervisors and each city council in the thirteen southern counties affected to actively support such a program.
