I RESOLUTION NO. / Iv /3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE IMPORTA- TION OF LOW-SULPHUR OIL FOR ELECTRIC GENERATING PURPOSES. WHEREAS, The City of Seal Beach is immediately adjacent to the largest concentration of electric generating facilities in Southern California; and WHEREAS, The ruling of the Federal Power Commission did not provide sufficient natural gas for producing the required electric power at the afore-mentioned facilities and neces- sitates the burning of oil for electric generating purposes the equivalent of t~irty full days per year; and WHEREAS, Recent tests show that imported, special low-sulphur oil causes fewer difficulties experienced in connection with smog when compared to high-sulphur content oil; and I WHEREAS, The Secretary of the Interior has, pursuant to his authority, granted permission for the importation of low-sulphur content oil; and. WHEREAS, S.2332 by Senator Long of Louisiana would remove from the Secretary of the Interior the authority to set import quotas pe~mitting the importing of low-sulphur oil which is less causa- tive of air pollution; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COuNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE THAT IT IS OPPOSED TO S. 2332 AND URGES THAT THE CONGRESS REFUSE PASSAGE OF S.2332 WHICH IS INIMICAL TO THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH AND OVER NINETEEN MILLION OTHER RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Seal Beach at a meeting thereof held on the 6th day of November, 1967, by the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT : Councilmen Councilmen Councilmen Gummere, Hamilton, Dreis, Anderson !'lone GetDID.J.l.l.
