Fire Prevention Week
"Practice Your Escape Plan!"
October 7-13, 2007
WHEREAS, the week of October 7-13 has been designated as Fire
Prevention Week by the National Fire Protection Association and the
International Association of Fire Chiefs; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate
the Great Chicago Fire of October 8, 1871, and is designed to focus
attention on fire safety programs that offer engineering, educational,
enforcement-related and evaluative solutions to our national and local
fire problem by emphasizing fire sprinkler and smoke alarm installation
and maintenance, school and adult educational programs, safety
Inspections of residential and commercial properties, identification of
the cause and contributing factors of all fires, and practicing exit drills
in the home; and
e
WHEREAS, this year's theme, 'Practice Your Escape Plan" was
chosen because home fires are the leading cause of fire fatalities in
Orange County and across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Fire Authority Is recognizing Fire
Prevention Week by conducting an OPEN HOUSE at a fire station In
each community and at the OCFA Headquarters In Irvine. The public is
encouraged to visit one of the open houses on Saturday, October 13,
2007 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 4,
2007 and this is a good time to 'Chanoe Your Clock and Check Your
Smoke Alarm."

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that City of Seal Beach
does hereby declare the week of October 7-13 as Fire Prevention
Week, and urges all Its citizens to visit an Orange County Fire
Authority open house on Saturday, October 13, and to check their
alarms and practice their escape plan when they set their clocks back
on November 4. .

WHEREAS, Brigadier General Combs was appointed as the
Commanding General, 40th Infantry Division (Mechanized)
and Post Commander at the Joint Forces Training Base on
November 1, 2005; and
e
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Combs provided a link
between the military and local municipalities attending and
speaking at many community organization meetings; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Combs and his wife, Janet,
have been active participants in community activities in the
City of Seal Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Seal
Beach, City Council does hereby commend Brigadier
General James P. Combs for his service as Commanding
General of the 40th Infantry Division at the Joint Forces
Training Base and extend our sincere gratitude for his
contribution and dedication to the community.
