SUBJECT: RECEIVE AND FILE STATUS REPORT RE: RIVERS
END/SAN GABRIEL RIVER RMC PROJECT
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
Receive and file status report.
BACKGROUND:

The City has previously received a $500,000 grant from the San Gabriel and Lower Los
Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy ("RMC") for preliminary design and
environmental work for this project. Staff is now prepared to move forward with this
project and will be taking the following actions to obtain funding for the completion of
this important project:
I:l Contract Extension with RMC for final design, permitting, and construction -
estimated at $1,500,000. Staff has met with representatives of the RMC and will
be processing the necessary contract extension documents in a timely manner.
The City Council may be required to approve specific contract extension
documents in the future.
I:l Submit a grant application for $850,000 to the State Resources Agency for
funding under the "California River Parkways Gant Program" that is funded by
Proposition 50. This application is to be subrnitted by October 19 and staff is
currently working to complete the application. On October 22 the City Council
will be requested to formally adopt a resolution to approve the subject application
(a draft resolution is required to be submitted with the grant request application).

The project is to develop and improve the San Gabriel River trail from the generally
Seventh Street to the end of the San Gabriel River at the 1st Street Beach Parking Lot and
to improve the public parking lot and restrooms at First Street. The proposed
development includes an updated bike/pedestrian trail, a water quality friendly parking
lot, restroom rehabilitation, signage, and fencing. Specific amenities and benefits
proposed will include educational kiosks, picnic and bicycle facilities, vegetated swales,
enhanced trailheac1s, and native landscaping and vegetation.

FISCAL IMPACT:
No direct fiscal impacts at this time. Allocation of current staff time to comply with
application submittal requirements and timelines is necessary.
