Council Meetings '- Cancellations for 2006
TO:
FROM:
SUMMARY OF REQUEST:
That City Council cancel the fullowing scheduled Council meetings fur calendar year
2006: January 9, March 27, April 10, May 8, July 10, August 28, October 9, November
27, and December 25.
.
In the alternative City Council may wish to move to monthly meetings mid that those
meetings occur on the fuurth Monday of each month. Moving to one meeting a month
would not interfere with conducting the Redevelopment Agency meeting since both the
City Council and Redevelopment Agency meetings would be held at the same time. If
Council determined it would be best to move to one meeting a month it would only
require amending Resolution 5179. The Seal Beach City Charter Section 407 would not
have to be amended since that section only requires one meeting a month.
BACKGROUND:
Looking at" the Council meeting dates fur 2006, staff is requesting the City Council
meetings dates alluded to in the previous section of the staffreport be cancelled.
Cancellation of these meetings will not impact City Council business, and items needing
attention can be rescheduled to the fullowing meeting. Cancellation of these meetings this
far in advance will help the staff plan fur the upcoming year and will give the public
advanced notice of the meeting changes.
e
As an alternative to canceling the previously referenced City Council meetings, City
Council may wish to consider directing staff to prepare a resolution approving the
meeting change and that the rnonthly City Council meeting be held on the fuurth Monday
of the month. The City and Redevelopment Agency meetings could then be held as a
joint meeting, thereby eliminating any conflicts with the Redevelopment Agency meeting
schedule.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to canceling the meetings and if the Council moved to one
meeting a month there would b~ a slight cost savings.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Upon a motion of City Council, the January 9, Mareh27, April 10, May 8, July
10, August 28, October 9, November 27 and December 25 City Council meetings
in 2006 are cancelled, or in the altemative;
2. Direct Staff to prepare a resolution amending Resolution 5179 allowing a change
to one City Council meeting per month and that the City Council meeting be held
each month on the fuurth Monday of the month. This resolution would then be
funnally considered at the next City Council meeting.
