HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Res 2413 1975-03-24 I I I RESOLUTION NUMBER ~~/~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH SUPPORTING THE USE OF THE MARCH AIR FORCE BASE SITE AS THE BEST SITE FOR A NEW NATIONAL CEMETERY AND URGING SELECTION OF THE SITE BY THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION OF THE UNITED STATES. WHEREAS, the Veterans Administration of the United States has recognized the.need for a new national cemetery within the State of California to serve deceased veterans of the nation's military forces; and the Veterans Administration has diligently reviewed nine possible sites and reduced the choice to three: March Air Force Base near Riverside, White Wolf Va11ey near Bakersfiela, San Luis Reservoir near Los Banos; and WHEREAS, the March Air Force Base site is located within one to two hours of the Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside-San Bernardino, Ventura and San Diego metropolitan areas wherein reside a significant majority of both veterans and active duty personnel of the military forces and their families; and WHEREAS, the March Air Force Base site is adjacent to a military installation dedicated to the security of the nation since March 20, 1918, when named to honor Second Lieutenant Peyton C, March, Jr,; and WHEREAS, WHEREAS, March Air Force Base is identified with men who wrote their names in the military history of the nation -- Frederick Eglin, Hoyt S. Vandenberg, Nathan F. Twining, Thomas S, Powers, Curtis E. LeMay, H. H. Arnold, Ira Eaker, Emmett O'Donnell, Colin Kelly -- and in so doing, dedicated this ground to the memory of the nation's veterans for all time; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach supports the use of the March Air Force Base site as the best site for a new National Cemetery and urges selection of the site by the Veterans Administration of the United States.
