A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH. CALIFORNIA. IN OPPOSITION TO SENATE
BILL 2408.
WHEREAS. Senate Bill 2408 (Behr) proposes to require the licensing of
Police Officers by a statewide conunissioni and
WHEREAS, the standards,. procedures and requirements would be prepared
and aGninistered by a statewide conmission; and
WHEREAS. licensing of police officers under qualifications set..at the
state level would be mandatory; and
WHEREAS. the City of Seal Beach currently establishes all requirements
for the hiring of City empJoyees; and
WHEREAS. the proposed S.B. 2408 would restrict. if not eliminate. the
ability of the City to establish requirements for a specific
group of City employees;
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach.
Califomia. does hereby oppose adoption of proposed legislation Senate Bill
2408 by the State Legislature;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Senator
Dennis Carpenter. the Senate ClIIIII\ittee on Finance. the League of Califomia
Cities. and all cities in Orange County.
