RESOLUTION NUMBER 2352
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL
BEACH, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING MEMBERS OF THE CALIFORNIA
LEGISLATURE TO REPEAL AND AMEND THOSE SECTIONS OF THE
CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT CODE PERTAINING TO THE STATE
EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR STATE LEGISLATORS WHO
ARE NO LONGER SERVING DUE TO LOSS OF ELECTION OR
APPORTI ONMENT.
WHEREAS,
the City of Seal Beach recognizes a need for a retirement
system for State Legislators who have served the State of
California for an appropriate period of time; and
WHEREAS,
the people of the State of California have, through
amendments to the State Constitution and through the
actions of their elected representatives, provided fair
and equitable compensation for those choosing to serve as
members of the Legislature; and
I
WHEREAS, recent amendments to the California Government Code pertaining
to retirement have had the effect of unjustly enriching
certain members of the Legislature at the expense of all
California Tax Payers; to the extent that their action has
caused a disservice and loss of confidence by the people of
the State of California; and
WHEREAS, government at all levels is instituted for the protection,
security and benefit of the people, it is, therefore, demanded
and incumbent upon those elected to serve the people that they
enact just laws not for the benefit of the elected, but for
the benefit of those electing them;

respectfully request that the members of the California Legislature
