'A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA AMENDING THE POSITION
CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO INCLUDE THE JOB CLASSIFICATION
OF UTILITY APPRENTICE.
WHEREAS, because of the increased complexities of the City's
utility system the Personnel Officer has recommended
the job classification of Utility Apprentice be
included in the position Classification Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Civil Service Board of the City of Seal Beach
has recommended the position Classification Plan be
amended to include the position of Utility Apprentice;and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLV.ED that the City Council of the City
of Seal Beach, California does hereby amend the ~osition Class-
ification Plan of the City to include the position of Utility
Apprentice.

UTILITY APPRENTICE
Definition
Under supervision, trains to learn the electrical trade, in-
cluding the maintenance, repair, and service of the City's
overhead and underground electrical systems and the related
machinery, equipment and facilities~ and performs related work
as required.
Typical Tasks
Learns the electrical trade by assisting an electrician who
installs conduit, wiring, switches, fuse boxes, etc. for power
and lights in City buildings' 'and facilities~ installs and re-
places street lights and maintains traffic signals and other
traffic control devices. Inspects traffic signals, street lights
and other electrical devices installed by suppliers to determine
.their acceptability and conformance with specifications. May
assist as necessary in the maintenance and repair of va~ious
telephone, and radio communication systems.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The duties of the apprentice, progress through both his school
courses and actual work knowledge, performs the skilled work
normally performed by an electrician on an increasing basis
until ultimately he has acquired the skills of a journeyman
electrician.
Employment Standards
Equivalent to high school diploma and/or two years of "trade
school" level courses in electrical subjects, or any combination
of equivalent training and experience. Must show evidenced
aptitude for electrical work.
