RESOLUTION NUMBER d;;.. f 0
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH OPPOSING UNITED STATES SENATE BILL 2747
REGARDING AMENDING FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT.
it has been proposed in the United States Senate to amend the
Fair Labor Standards Act to alter Firemens working conditions;
and
the amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act specifically calls
for time and one half for any hours worked over 48 in a week;
and
the 48 hour criteria would be reduced to 40 hours in five years,
thus causing time and one half to be paid after 40 hours in
fi ve years; and
the firemen's work schedule is arranged in 24 hour shifts so
that their working hours specifically fit the unique requirements
of a fire-fighter; and
by forcing the payment of time and one half after 48 hours to be
reduced to 40 hours in five years, would cost the taxpayers of
Seal Beach an additional $938,223 with no discernable benefit;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Seal
Beach, California, strongly opposes United States Senate Bill 2747 and
urges the exclusion of payment of time and one half for firemen from any
federal legislation.
