A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEAL BEACH URGING THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA
CITIES AND THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS ASSOCIATION
OF CALIFORNIA TO SUPPORT AN INCREASE IN THE
AMOUNT OF FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED BY UTILITY
COMPANIES FOR UNDERGROUNDING OF EXISTING UTILITY
LINES AND URGING CONTINUED COOPERATION BETWEEN
LOCAL JURISDICTIONS AND PUBLIC UTILITIES.
WHEREAS, there is a recognized need to underground overhead utilities for
the health and welfare of the public in the State of California; and
WHEREAS, there is an economic need to complete undergrounding projects as
quickly as possible at current costs; and
WHEREAS, there is a logical need to complete undergrounding projects on
major scenic and heavily traveled highways as rapidly as possible
for the benefit of the people of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, the current rate of allocation of funds as established by the Public
Utilities Commission is not sufficient to complete undergrounding
projects in a reasonable length of time; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to make more efficient use of funds which are made
available by utility companies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach
urges the League of California Cities and the County Supervisors Association
of California to support a change in the rate at which funds are to be allocated
by utility companies under Public Utilities Case Number 8209 which would signi-
ficantly increase the amount of funds set aside for undergrounding projects.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beac~ endorses
continued cooperation between local juriSdictions and utility companies to
complete undergrounding projects as quickly as possible and to make the most
efficient use of funds available for undergrounding, copies of this resolution
are to be sent to the League of California Cities. the County Supervisors
Association of ,California, the Public Utilities Commission. the Southern
California Edison Company, the Orange County Board of Supervisors, and all
cities in Orange County.
