RESOLUTION NUMBER ';;084
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH. CALIFORNIA RECITING THE FACTS OF THE
PRIMARY MUNICIPAL NOMINATING ELECTION HELD IN
THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH ON THE 28TH DAY OF MARCH.
1972, DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF. AND SUCH
OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW.
WHEREAS,
a Primary Nominating Municipal Election was held and conducted
in the City of Seal Beach, County of Orange, State of California,
on Tuesday, the 28th day of March. 1972, as required by Ordinance
Number 866 of the City of Seal Beach, California; and
notice of said election was duly and regularly given in time.
form, and manner as provided by law; that voting precincts were
properly established; that election officers were appointed, and
that in all respects said election was held and conducted and the
votes cast thereat. received and canvassed, and the returns made
and declared in time, form and manner as required by the provisions
of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding
of elections in general law and charter cities; and
WHEREAS, Section 22932 of the Elections Code provides that the governing
bo~ shall meet to canvass the returns of the election;
WHEREAS,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH. CALIFORNIA, DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That there were twenty-five (25) precincts established for the
purpose of holding said election consisting of consolidations
of the regular election precincts in the City of Seal Beach,
California as established for the holding of State and County
elections.

Section 2. That said Primary Municipal Election was held for the purpose
of nominating a Councilman from Councilmanic District II; a
Councilman from Councilmanic District IV; and a City Clerk and
City Treasurer from all Councilmanic Districts. city~wide.
Section 3. That the names of the persons voted for at said election were
as follows:
Member of the City Council, Councilmanic District II:
Franklin B. Sales
Edward E. Smith
For Member of the City Council. Councilmanic District IV:
Jay T. Covington
Thomas I. McKnew
Carl E. Poynor
For City Clerk:
Jerdys T. Weir
Lynne I. Shirley
For City Treasurer:
D. Barry Morgan.
That the number of votes given at each precinct including absentee
vote, for each of such persons above named are attached as "Exhi\)it A."

Section 4. The City Council does declare and determine that Franklin B.
Sales was elected to serve as Councilman. Councilmanic District II;
for a term of four years commencing July 1. 1972; and
I
that D. Barry Morgan was elected to serve as City Treasurer for
a term of four years commencing July 1, 1972; and
that JerdyS T. Weir was elected to serve as City Clerk for a term
of four years commencing July 1. 1972; and
that ' Thomas I. McKnew, . was elected to serve as Councilman,
CounCllmanic District IV; for ii1i!rm of four years commencing July 1, 1972.
Section 5. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council
of the City of Seal Beach, a statement of the results of said
election showing:
(1) The whole number of votes cast in the City;
(2) The names of the persons voted for;
(3) For what office each person was voted for;
(4) The number of votes given at each precinct to each person;
(5) The number of total votes gi~en to each person.
Section 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption
of this resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original
resolutions of said City; and shall make a minute of the passage
and adoption thereon in the records of the proceedings of the
City Council of said City. in the minutes of the meeting at which
the same is passed and adopted.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular adjourned meeting of the City Council
held on the 4th day of . Apri.l 1972.
