A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF "THE CALIFORNIA MARINE SANCTUARY ACT OF 1969" WHEREAS, The State of California has established marine sanctuaries in tide and submerged lands under state jurisdiction, wherein the production of oil, gas, and other hydrocarbon substances is prOhibited I and WHEREAS, The sanctuaries and the coastal lands adjacent to them may be threatened with a serious pollution problem such as occurred in the Santa Barbara Channel if leases are granted for oil and gas production on federal submerged lands oceanward of the existing state sanctuaries7 and WHEREAS, "The California Marine Sanctuary Act" would preclude the federal government from entering into any future leases for exploration for or extraction of oil, gas, or any other mineral on federal submerged lands adjacent to the tide and submerged lands established by the State as sanctuaries 7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach hereby urges the enactment by the Congress and the approval of the President of the United States of "The California Marine Sanctuary Act ~f 1969," BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to send copies of this reSOlution to the President of the United States, the Secretary of the Interior, the co-authors of the bill, the chainnen of the committees which will hear "The California Marine Sanctuary Act of 1969" and suc;:h other cities, counties, state and federal agencies and officials as may have an interest in the legislation, PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the Seal Beach at a meeting thereof held by the following vote: AYES: CO~RCilmenl-2ft~4~~.~tZ~~<< NOES: Councilmen ~-ee..- ABSENT: Councilmen ~ L~~ City Council of the City of on the 2nd day of March, 1970, ~L- ~... ~?L ~~ ~~~I .z 4.~ ,. . ~ , ~~_~(A' CU~~ L4-1lerk'1 \
