A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA OPPOSING THE SOUTlIERLY
EXTENSION OF THE 605 FREEWAY AND THE PROPOSED
CONSTRUCTION OF THE PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY FREEWAY.
WHEREAS, the City of Seal Beach has never opposed by Resolution the
southerly extension of the 605 Freeway and the proposed construction
of the Pacific Coast Highway Freeway; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Seal Beach supports the formation
of an Orange County Transit District; and
WHEREAS, mass transit produces significantly less pollutants per capita
mile than individually operated automobiles; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Pacific Coast Freeway will pose a serious threat to
the continued existence of the tidal marshlands and marine sanctuary; and
WHEREAS, the southerly extension of the 605 Freeway and the proposed con-
struction of the Pacific Coast Highway Freeway will pose a serious threat
to the health, welfare and living environment of the citizens of Seal Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Seal Beach,
that this Council opposes the southerly extension of the 605 Freeway and the
proposed construction of the' Pacific Coast Highway Freeway;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk forward copies of this resolution
to the Seal Beach Council for Environmental Concerns, all members of the
Orange County Board of Supervisors, the State Department of Public Works -
Division of Highways and our State legislators.
