RESOLUTION NUMBER 1919
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH URGING THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON
COMPANY TO PROVIDE CUSTOMERS IN ORANGE COUNTY WITH
3 ,50P, LUMEN MERCURY VAPOR LUMINAIRE LIGHTS AND RE-
QUESTING CONCURRENCE OF THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
IN SIAD REQUEST AND PRESENTING FACTS IN SUPPORT THEREFORE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEAL BEACH DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WlIEREAS, this Council feels that an improvement over the relatively obsolete
2,500 lumen incandescent luminaire is desirable in the intermediate range
without the need to step up to a 7,000 lumen mercury vapor unit which is the
smallest unit that Edison makes available at the present time in this area; and
WHEREAS, this Council: finds and declares that other utility companies in the
United States as well as cooperative utilities have 3,;000 and 3,500 lumen units
available to the customers as it is a regular manufactured unit; and
WHEREAS, the Edison Company has recognized this size of unit as being a desirable
unit in use by including it in their latest LS-2 or customer-owned rate schedule
and the State Highway Department is using this size in certain installations; and
WHEREAS, this Council feels that asking for the availability of this unit is a
valid request in view of the fact that Edison has recently been granted a rate
increase of fifteen per cent on the 2,500 and 4,000 lumen incandescent lamps
which would be replaced by the requested 3,500 lumen mercury vapor unit; and
WHEREAS, this Council finds and declares that no Edison owned (LS-1) rate is
available or will be suggested by the Edison Company but on the basis of the
relative cost of other mercury vapor units it should be priced lower than the
existing rate for the 2,500 lumen incandescent, while resulting in a substantial
increase in light output; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Traffic Engineering Council has studied, concurred
and recommended this improved service;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seal Beach
requests the Southern California Edison Company to provide and the Public Utilities
Commission to concur in said request that 3,500 lumen mercury vapor luminaire
lights be made available to the governing agencies in Orange County which provide
street lighting as a part and portion of their governing services.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the consumer have a range of desirable street light
sizes available.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, when duly passed and
executed, be forwarded in certified form to the Southern California Edison
Company and to the California Public Utilities Commission.
