A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE ESTABLISHMENT
OF NEW NATIONAL CEMETERIES FOR VETERANS AND THEIR
FAMILIES.
WHEREAS
The United States Government has promised every man who
served his country as a member of the armed forces that
he and his immediate family could be buried in a national
cemetery if he or his family so desired; and
WHEREAS,
Limited space now remains in existing national cemeteries
and the Department of Defense has announced that no plans
exist for creating new national cemeteries for veterans
and their families; and
More than forty-million persons, two million of them more
than seventy years of age, are now eligible for national
cemetery burials under legal provisions established since
the Civil War; and
WHEREAS, Ampl~ space is available on existing national lands and
the only requirement is the dedication of the land for
cemetery purposes; and
WHEREAS ,
WHEREAS, Mortuaries have been forced to send families to private
cemeteries at an additional cost above and beyond the
governmental burial allowance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, California, that the United States Conference of Mayors
is hereby asked to adopt a resolution urging the creation of new
national cemeteries so that the government may fulfill its promise
to care for veterans and their immediate families.
PASSED, ,APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Seal Beach, California, at a meeting thereof held on the First Day
of April, 1968, by the following vote:
